Twentyfive miles south of Taos, where the Rio Grande emerges from a narrow canyon into the historic Espanola Valley, lies the sleepy agrarian community of Velarde. Once called La Joya, the jewel, it is known for its orchards, pastoral landscapes and friendly people. Bordered on the east by vast stretches of public land, Velarde is centrally located among northern New Mexico's most well known attractions including Sante Fe, Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch, Chimayo, Los Alamos, Bandelier and Ojo Caliente.

Situated directly on the Rio Grande in Velarde is Casita La Joya, a unique vacation rental experience. Our enchanting treehouse and luxurious bathhouse stand in century old cottonwood trees in a private and magical setting. It's a great place for a short, romantic getaway or a longer stay for artists, writers or solitude seekers. We are close to it all yet a world away.
